Cora Gorman
Missionary to Suriname, South America
Cora Gorman
has served as a Bible school teacher in both Indonesia and Zambia.
Most recently she served in Suriname where she lectured in Dutch
at the Wesleyan Bible Institute. She taught 11 courses and led
numerous seminars. Cora has also been appointed the new director
of the Wesleyan Bible Institute in Suriname.
Cora was born in Yarmouth,
Nova Scotia, and raised in South Africa where she received her
call to missions at a family camp when she was 17. She earned a
B.A. degree in religion from Bethany Bible College in 1988 and
received her M.Div. in cross-cultural ministry from Columbia Biblical
Seminary in 1993.
Cora served with YES Corps in 1987 to Australia and with Wesleyan Gospel Corps
in 1992 to Zambia. Her missionary heritage stems from her parents who served
with Wesleyan World Missions in South Africa.
When
asked what her dreams for missionary service are, she responds,
“That, as I help to mentor, encourage, and train national leaders
for ministry so they can train others, it may be said of me that
my faith was unshakeable, my love was unconditional, and the
gospel was spread because I allowed Truth to bear fruit in my
life” (Colossians 1:3-6).
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.
She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue” (Proverbs
31:25-26).
